We would like to send out big congratulations to our 4 Scholarship recipients for 2018. Established several years ago, SPMSA is supporting our athletes to pursue post secondary education through a scholarship fund. The four athletes this year are very worthy recipients:. Shae-Lynn Hipkin, Megan Lambert, Emma Stephens and Kora Martin.

Shae-Lynn has played her entire minor ball career with SPMSA! She is now off to study her first year of Animal Health Technology at Lakeland College in Vermillion.

Megan Lambert has played many years with SPMSA, including the last several years on the U19A Storm. She is studying education at the University of Alberta. Megan has been a regular volunteer at our camps for recreational players and continues to volunteer for the organization.

Emma Stephens is attending the University of Calgary taking Engineering. Emma was also selected to play for the U of C Dino softball team this past season! She is looking very forward to hitting the shale with her U19A Storm teammates this upcoming spring.

Kora Martin is also a member of the U19A Storm. She is currently studying and playing both college softball and volleyball at Rainy River College in Minnesota. Kora has been a winter training coach for several of our younger Storm teams and a regular volunteer at camps.

Once again, congratulations to these young ladies and best of luck in your studies!

We would like to acknowledge the Woodbridge Farms Community Foundation for their generous donation to our association. They have supported our community for many years and have made many great things happen. The donation they have made will go towards supporting our new umpires and also our coaches through offsetting the costs of training and of equipment. We truly appreciate your kind gift.

We would like to extend our congratulations to the U10A Storm for their fantastic showing this past weekend, capturing a U10 Provincial Gold Medal! This is the second year in a row that a U10 team has won a medal in Provincials. U10 is an open Provincial with teams playing a round robin and then splitting into an A and a B side based on that finish. Storm only lost one game all weekend and that was only by one run!
Coach Karnie Vertz, summed up the weekend for us “Sherwood Park U10A’s went 5 and 1 at Provincials in Calgary this weekend. We played some great teams from across the province and ended up in a close battle in the B Provincial Championship. With some great pitching and timely hitting in the last two innings, the Storm prevailed, winning gold.”
Our congratulations also go out to the U10B Storm many of whom participated in their first ever Provincial Championship! So proud of both our teams. Thank you to the coaches and parents for putting the time and commitment in to share the love of the game at this young age! We have more fun to come, as Sherwood Park hosts Provincials this upcoming weekend with 4 teams participating. Good luck ladies!

As part of an ongoing relationship with Alberta’s sister Province in Japan, Softball Alberta is sending a team of Alberta athletes to Hokkaido, Japan this summer. They will then be hosting a team from Japan next summer.
Selections were held for Coaches and one of our very own, Peter Gogich (coach of the U14A Storm and SPMSA President) was selected as a Head Coach. A big congratulations to him!
Players from around the Province submitted an application, which included an essay and reference letters. An intense two day tryout followed on May 19 and 20th, which included an interview with the Softball Alberta selection committee. The process of applying alone was an amazing experience for the athletes.
We are so proud that we had seven athletes representing Sherwood Park Minor Softball at the tryouts! Three of our athletes were selected to represent Alberta this summer!! The athletes include Autumn Cole, Georgia Bowman and Kate Talaga. All three are long time Storm players and we are thrilled that they have this opportunity!
Congratulations ladies!
